Set up in 1993, EURES - European Employment Services - is a cooperation network designed to facilitate the free movement of workers within the European Economic Area (The EU countries plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein); Switzerland is also involved. Partners in the network include public employment services, trade union and employers' organisations. The network is coordinated by the European Commission.
The main objectives of EURES are:
- to inform, guide and provide advice to potentially mobile workers on job opportunities as well as living and working conditions in the European Economic Area;
- to assist employers wishing to recruit workers from other countries; and
- to provide advice and guidance to workers and employers in cross-border regions.

EURES has a human network of more than 800 EURES advisers that are in daily contact with jobseeker and employers across Europe.
The EURES datebase:
- Job-search database- The jobs advertised on the EURES Portal come from EURES members and partners, in particular the European Public Employment Services. They use EURES to advertise jobs for which employers are particularly interested in recruiting workers from other European countries. These "EURES jobs" have a blue flag, which indicates that an employer is particularly interested in recruiting workers from other European countries.
- By registering for free to “My EURES” for job seekers you can create your CV and make it available for registered employers and for EURES advisers helping employers to find suitable candidates.
- Information about the Living and working conditions in another European country
- Labour market information
- Information on the transitional rules governing the free movement of workers from, to and between the new member states
- Information on education and training opportunities throughout Europe, such as websites of higher education institutions, databases of training courses, schools, etc.
